課程概述 |
1.本課程以《實用視聽華語一》為主要教材。本初級課程旨在培養學習者聽說讀寫各方面的基本能力，並特別著重於基本發音、語法訓練，期望學習者在學完本課程後，能習得簡易的日常溝通能力。此外，盼能透過課堂上的師生互動與討論，使學習者了解華人與臺灣文化。
This course is constructed around the textbook Practical Audio-Visual Chinese I (Lesson 1-6).This elementary course aims to develop all four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. After this course, learners are expected to have acquired basic communication abilities, and be able to confidently handle daily life tasks. Moreover, students will have a deeper understanding of Taiwanese language and culture.
2.本課程授課語言以中文為主，英文為輔。
This course will be conducted mainly in Chinese. English will be used only when referring to basic grammar principles and relevant key points.

課程目標 |
1.建立基本的聽說讀寫能力。
Build up the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
2.能以中文與他人進行簡易而基本的日常會話。
Understand and use simple Chinese words and phrases to meet basic needs for daily conversation.
3.能讀懂課程範圍內的正體字，並能寫出至少五十字的短文表達個人想法。
Recognize traditional Chinese characters from the textbook and write a short essay of at least 50 words to express opinions. |

課程要求 |
1. 預習與複習。
Previews before and do homework after each class.
2. 勿遲到早退，遲到20分鐘或提早20分鐘離開視同缺課，缺課一次扣出席分數2分。
You are expected to attend the class punctually. Students are required to sign the attendances sheet upon arrival of each class. Those who arrive 20 minutes after the beginning of class (or leave 20 minutes earlier) will be considered absent for the whole class. You will lose 2 attendance points for each absence except for sick leave.
3. 病假不扣分，但請出示就醫證明。
For sick leave, you have to provide the written proof from a doctor.
4. 課堂上只說中文。
Only Chinese in the class
5. 上課請勿飲食或抽菸。
No food.
6. 按時繳交作業，遲交一律不收(病假除外，需於一週內補上)，以零分計。作業請寫在活頁紙上。
All assignments for this course must be submitted by the given deadline. Extensions will not be given unless you are sick ( have to be submitted within a week ) Late assignments are automatically scored a 0 (zero).Please write your homework on A4 paper.
7. 所有作業與考試都必須寫漢字。
All homework and tests should be written in Chinese characters.
8. 考試作弊者零分計算。
If you are caught cheating , you will be scored zero.
9. 平時考若缺席，不接受補考。
If you miss an exam, you cannot retake it.
10. 期中與期末考若無法參加請於兩週前告知並提早考，否則零分計算。
If you cannot take the midterm or final exam as scheduled, please inform the teacher before 2 weeks and arrange the test time. You have to take the test before the scheduled time, or you will get zero.
以上行為屬平時表現，經老師警告三次後，第四次開始扣分。每次每項1分。
All mentioned above are items evaluated under the category of “average performances”, and any violation will be warned by the teacher in person. After the third offence, One point will be taken out of “average performances” for every offence starting the forth one. |

出席率 Attendance |
15% |
1)遲到或早退20分鐘該堂課將被視為缺席。缺席每小時課程扣0.5分。
2)無法參與課程需要事先寫信告知教師，也必須在出缺席系統上請假。出席成績會被扣1分。
3)請病假在一週內要出示有效的證明，出席成績扣1分。
4)無故缺席會被扣2分。
5)在學期結束前提早離開學校，出缺席分數計算如同規則1。
6)太多次晚到會被視為缺席，也會留下負面印象而影響課堂參與的分數。
1) If you are late for class or leave earlier than scheduled over 20 minutes, the hour would be considered as absent. You will be deducted 0.5 points for per hour.
2) Please inform the instructor by email in advance, if you are unable to attend the class. You also need to take a leave on line. You will be deducted 1 point.
3) Valid and documented excuse should be provided ahead of time or within one week (for sick leave). You will be deducted 1 point.
4) You will be deducted 2 points for unexcused absence.
5) If students leave NTU before the term finished, the hours of absence also be calculated as rule 1.
6) Please note that too many late arrivals (and excused absences without valid and documented excuses) will also have negative impact on attendance and participation (and overall) grades. |

2) active participation in class;
3) adequate preparation before class;
4) demonstrated effort in completing assigned tasks;
5) Students should not write homework or do other things that are not related to the course, such as chatting with classmates or sleeping during class hour.

1) This includes Chinese character writing, Student workbook and some other assignments, such as writing narrations.
2) Please turn in your homework ON TIME on the set date. Late submission will not be accepted or scored. Submit your work ahead of time if you may miss the class of those days.
3) You will receive grades for each complete homework. Incomplete homework (miss more than 2 items), late homework or copy of classmates homework will receive No Grades (for both people) |

平時考 Test |
15% |
1) 這個部分包括聽寫和單元小考。
2) 課程開始時將進行約 10-15 分鐘的聽寫。 你必須根據聽到的內容寫出漢字、聲調和拼音。 聽寫缺考不補考。隨堂預習聽寫選擇較高20次計算。佔「小考」30%
3) 單課小考共六次，每人只有二次補考機會，而且須在一週內完成補考。若無法參加考試，請事先以電子郵件通知老師，如未事先通知則失去補考機會。佔「小考」70%
1) This includes Dictation and chapter test.
2) Dictation will be given at the beginning of the class for about 10-15 minutes. You will need to write characters, tones, and pinyin based on what you hear. No make-up quiz provided. There will be a preview dictation quiz almost every class. The highest 20 quizzes will be calculated into the final grades.
3) There will be 6 chapter tests in total this semester. Every student has two chances to take a makeup test if absent. Students have to inform the teacher via Email before the test about being absent and the need to take the makeup test, otherwise will lose the right to take the test. The makeup test has to be taken within a week. |

期中考 Mid-term exam |
20% |
1)期中考試包含聽力理解(30%)、筆試(40%)和口試(30%)三個部分。
2)考試時禁止使用手機和課本。
3)口試需要背誦對話內容。 閱讀口試中的稿件將被視為作弊，不計分。
4)不能在規定日期參加期中考試的學生，需至少提前兩週通知導師，並在考試日期前於系統上請假。 然後，學生可以在一週內補考。
5) 學生無故曠課或3天內不能補考，期中考試以零分計算。
1) Midterm exam is composed of three parts-listening comprehension (30%), written (40%), and oral (30%).
2) No cell phone or books are allowed during any type of test.
3) Oral exam requires memorization of the dialogue content. Reading from the script on the oral exam is considered as cheating and will receive No grades.
4) Students who can’t take Midterm exam on the set date need to inform the instructor at least two weeks before and take a leave on line before the exam date. Then, students can make up the exam in a week.
5) If students unexcused absent or can not make up the exam in 3 days, they will receive ZERO point on Midterm exam. |
